AOL My eAddress Update

In my original entry about AOL My eAddress I mentioned that it crashed both Firefox and Safari on my Mac Mini. Both Firefox and Safari work fine with the web mail on my iMac. The problem continues on my Mac Mini.

It’s probably specific to my Mac Mini but at sometime in the future I’ll be rebuilding the Mini and I’ll try again. I haven’t heard of anyone else having similar problems but I’m curious to know what will happen on a fresh Mac Mini PPC install. Since both browsers crash I suspect it’s a Java related problem.

  1. I am having trouble setting up my AOL My eAddress account on my iMac to work with Mail. I don’t seem to be able to transfer the setup information they have on their website for use with a My eAddress account. It seems more geared toward a regular AOL email account and/or an AIM account.

When I try to send an email I get the following:

The server response was: CLIENT AUTHENTICATION REQUIRED. USE ESMTP EHLO AND AUTH.

Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.

Any suggested you have would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  2. It isn't wise to use a domain name that you will never own. It is really AOL stealing intellectual property.
